2014 Wilson Cup: Game 1

The Newcastle North Stars have taken out the first of the 2014 Wilson Cup defeating the Sydney Bears 4-3 in a shooutout at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium in Newcastle. The Bears opened the scoring during the second period with a power play goal from Michael Schlamp. However the North Stars quickly leveled the game with a goal from Matt Taylor and then took the lead with Tim Stanger scoring with help from Nick Quirk, taking the score to 2-1. Mat Lindsay opened the scoring in the third period for the North Stars taking the score to 3-1. Down two goals the Bears responded with a goal from Cameron Todd and then leveled the game with a goal from Lee Turner. The game finished 3-3 in regular time and went to a shootout with Adam Geric scoring the game winning goal.

Game Two is set for the 22 March and will see the North Stars come up against the Sydney Ice Dogs at the Erina Ice Arena.
