Australia U18 lose to Bulgaria

The Australian under-18 team have lost their second game of the 2014 IIHF U18 Championship Division III Group A tournament going down to Bulgaria 0-1. Both teams were held scoreless until the second minute of the third period when Daniel Dilkov got one past Australia’s goaltender Tynan Theobald. Australia then pulled Theobald with just over a minute left in the game. The man advantage didn’t last long with Remy McGuiness receiving a penalty for cross-checking in the final minute and Australia finished the game scoreless. Anthony Barnes was named best Australian player for the game.

In the other games today Chinese Taipei defeated New Zealand 3-2 in a shootout and Mexico beat Israel 5-2. With one win from two games Australia has slipped to fourth in the standings due to goal difference while Bulgaria has moved into outright first with two wins from two games. The team will now take a days break before coming up against Israel in game three on Thursday at 13:00 local time.
