Australian U18 Women defeat Romania to finish seventh

The Australian women’s national under-18 team have won their final game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship Division I Qualification tournament, defeating Romania 7-6 following a shootout. The result means Australia finishes the tournament in seventh place. Natalie Ayris was named best Australian player of the match and Kate Tihema was selected as best Australian player of the tournament. In other games of the day China beat Poland 5-2 to finish fifth, Kazakhstan defeated Great Britain 2-0 to finish in third place, and Austria defeated Italy 3-2 to finish first and gain promotion to the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women World Championship Division I tournament.
