Australian U18 Men win Division III Group A

The Australian men’s national team have defeated Mexico 5-4 in their final game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division III Group A tournament, finishing first in the tournament standings and earning promotion to Division II Group B for 2017. Forward Thomas Steven was named best Australian player of the match and captain Ellesse Carini was named best Australian player of the tournament. In other games of the day Israel defeated Chinese Taipei 4-3 following a shootout and Bulgaria beat Turkey 1-0. Mexico, who finished the tournament in last place, is relegated to the Division III Group B tournament for 2017.
