2016 World Championships: Australia defeat Mexico

The Australian men’s national team have won their opening game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group B tournament, beating hosts Mexico 5-4 in overtime. Forward Wehebe Darge was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day New Zealand defeated Israel 6-3 and North Korea beat Bulgaria 9-3. After the end of the first round Australia sit in third place in the standings, one point behind leaders North Korea. Australia take on Bulgaria today in their second game of the tournament.
