The Australian men’s national team won their opening game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group A tournament, defeating Serbia 4-3 in overtime. Goaltender Anthony Kimlin was named best Australian player of the match after stopping 41 of 44 shots on goal. In other games of the day the Iceland defeated Spain 3-2 and Romania beat Belgium 9-1. At the end of the first round Australia sit in third place, trailing the leader Romania by one point. Australia take on Iceland today in their second game of the tournament.
