The team being formed by Ice Hockey Queensland to play in the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) has been named the Brisbane Lightning. The team will compete in a series of exhibition games during the 2022 season before joining the league proper in 2023. Details of the exhibition games are yet to be released but will be worked into the existing 2022 season schedule.
