Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) and the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) have announced the creation of a new award for the 2022 National Championships. The award, known as the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) Best and Fairest Award, will be given in “recognition of the best individual talent and in the interest of player safety and fair play” at each National Championship event.

The AIHL will provide one stick from Skaters Network an AIHL sponsor: up to the value of $300, for the MVP of each tournament that has the least penalties and plays fair.

Mark Weber, IHA National Tournament Director

The 2022 National Championships program gets underway on 6 July with the Sydney Tange tournament in Perth. The Kurt Defris tournament follows on 28 July in Newcastle, the Phillip Ginsberg tournament on 11 August in Adelaide, and the Jim Brown and Women’s tournaments on 18 October in Melbourne.
