Melbourne Dragons become the Melbourne Chargers

The Melbourne Dragons of the Australian Women’s Tier 2 Show Case Series have changed their name to the Melbourne Chargers for the upcoming 2019 season.

The change of name also sees a new logo for the club. This abandons the clubs use of a slightly re-designed version of the Mobile Mysticks‘ dragon logo.

Perth Blaze join the AW2SCS

Western Australia will be represented by the Perth Blaze in the Australian Women’s Tier 2 Show Case Series (AW2SCS). Western Australia previously competed in the tournament under the names of Western Australia and the Western Australian Hawkettes from 2016-2017 and announced their intention to return to the competition last month. The Blaze have adopted the branding of the AWIHL’s Perth Inferno and will compete in their first AW2SCS tournament in Canberra from 5 to 8 April. The club also released their 2019 team roster for the tournament.

Western Australia to return to the AW2SCS

Western Australia have announced their intention to form a team for the 2019 Australian Women’s Tier 2 Show Case Series. Western Australia previously competed in 2016 under the name of Western Australian Hawkettes and in 2017 simply as Western Australia and won the 2017 regular season and playoffs. 2018 AW2SCS: Round 3 and Playoffs

The 2018 Australian Women’s Tier 2 Show Case Series has finished with the Melbourne Dragons defeating the Canberra Pirates 4-1 in the final to win the their first Gower Cup. The Pirates went into the final having earlier picked up the regular season title and having won all four of their Round 3 games. The Southern Stars finish in third after defeating the Adelaide Valkyries 5-4 in their placement match. Round 3 and the playoffs were held at the O’Brien Group Arena.

The New South Wales Bombers withdrew from the from the final round of competition due to player commitments in the New South Wales Women’s State League. The Bomber’s were replaced in this weekends competition by the Aussie Jets who played in the Round 3 games but were not eligible for the playoffs.
