Australian Women lose to Estonia

The Australian women’s team have lost their final game of the 2015 IIHF Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament, losing to Slovenia 1-5. Katherine McOnie was named best Australian player of the match and Stephanie Newmark was named the best Australian player of the tournament. In other games of the day Belgium defeated Iceland 3-2 in overtime and Mexico beat Spain 3-2. Australia finished the tournament in fifth place, six points behind leaders Slovenia who earned promotion to Division II Group A for 2016. Belgium was relegated to Division II Qualification for 2016 after finishing in last place.

Australian Women beat Mexico

The Australian women’s team have won their second game of the 2015 IIHF Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Mexico 3-1. Shona Green was named best Australian player of the match, her second best player award of the tournament. In other games of the day Slovenia defeated Iceland 7-2 and Spain beat Belgium 3-0. After the end of round four Australia remain in fifth place and are three points behind leaders Slovenia. Australia take on Slovenia today in the final game of the tournament.

Australian Women defeat Belgium

The Australian women’s team have won their first game of the 2015 IIHF Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Belgium 3-0. Georgia Carson was named best Australian player of the mach. In other games of the day Mexico defeated Slovenia 3-0 and Spain beat Iceland 5-4 following a shootout. After the end of round three Australia remain in fifth place and are four points behind leaders Mexico. Competition resumes tomorrow after todays rest day with Australia taking on Mexico.

Shona Green was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Mexico defeated Belgium 5-0 and Slovenia beat Spain 3-1. After the end of round two Australia remain in fifth place in the standings and are six points behind leaders Slovenia. The teams return to competition tomorrow following todays rest day with Australia taking on Belgium.

The Australian women’s team have lost their opening game of the 2015 IIHF Women’s World Championship Division II Group tournament, losing to Spain 1-4. Michelle Coonan was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Iceland defeated Mexico 2-1 following a shootout and Slovenia beat Belgium 13-2. After the opening game of the tournament Australia is sitting in fifth place, three points behind leaders Slovenia and Spain. Australia take on Iceland today in their second game of the tournament.

2015 Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament gets underway

The 2015 IIHF Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament starts today in Jaca, Spain. Australia will face Belgium, Iceland, Mexico, Slovenia and Spain in the round-robin tournament which runs until 13 March. Prior to heading to Spain the Australian team have been on a training camp in Litomerice, Czech Republic. The team competed in three exhibition games during the camp, taking on the Czech Republic Women’s under-16 team in two games and Litvinov in the third. Australia lost both games against the Czech Republic under-16 team, losing 1-5 and 2-8. The result for the Litvinov game was not announced.
