Australian Women win Division II Group B

The Australian women’s national team have defeated Iceland 3-2 in their final game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament, finishing first in the tournament standings and earn promotion to Division II Group A for 2017. Sari Lehmann was named best Australian player of the match and Alivia Del Basso was named best Australian player of the tournament, selected as the best forward and was the tournaments top scorer with 19 points. In other games of the day Mexico defeated New Zealand 5-2 and Spain beat Turkey 8-1. Turkey who finished the tournament in last place is relegated to the Division II Group B Qualification tournament for 2017.

Australian Women shutout Turkey

The Australian women’s national team have won their first game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Turkey 12-0. Forward Alivia Del Basso was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Iceland defeated New Zealand 8-2 and Spain beat Mexico 3-0. After the end of the second round Australia is sitting in third place, trailing the leaders Spain by two points. The teams now have a rest day today and return to the ice on Thursday with Australia taking on New Zealand in their third game of the tournament.

Poland Defeat Australian Women

The Australian Women’s team have lost their fourth game of the 2014 IIHF Women’s World Championship Division II Group A tournament, losing to Poland 5-7. Alivia Del Basso was named best Australian player of the game. Australia remain in fifth place after four games and are now trailing tournament leaders Italy by nine points. The team has their second break day before coming up against South Korea in their final game of the tournament. In other games of the day Great Britain defeated South Korea 3-1 and Italy shutout New Zealand 5-0.
