Melbourne Mustangs
– The Mustangs have announced the re-signing of Patrick O’Kane for the 2018 season. O’Kane first joined the Mustangs in 2013 and has since recorded 212 points in 140 games.
– The Mustangs also announced the signing of former CBR Brave goaltender Aleksi Toivonen. After playing three seasons with the Brave Toivonen was released in favour of an import goaltender. During the 2017-18 season Toivonen has been playing for Paimion Haka in 2. Divisioona.

2017 AIHL All-Star Weekend: Skills Competition

The 2017 AIHL All-Star Weekend got underway today with the Skills Competition being held at the O’Brien Group Arena. The Melbourne Mustangs claimed three of the seven competitions with Jamie Bourke, Patrick O’Kane and Matt Beattie all claiming one each. The Melbourne Ice claimed two with Joseph Hughes picking up both, the Adelaide Adrenaline won one competition through Josef Rezek and the Sydney Ice Dogs picked up one with Damien Ketlo. The All-Star Weekend continues tomorrow with the All-Star Game.

Adelaide Adrenaline
– The Adrenaline have defeated the Ice Hockey South Australia All Star team 9-1 in their exhibition match at the Adelaide Ice Arena. The match was held as part of the Hockey Day in Adelaide event which also featured a live stream of an NHL match, public skating with the Adrenaline and Adelaide Rush players and a Come ‘N’ Try Hockey session.

Michael McMahon will take over the captaincy for the 2017 season. MacMahon replaces Patrick O’Kane who held the position in the 2016 season. Jamie Bourke will return as one of the clubs alternate captains. Brendan McDowell and Patrick O’Kane will serve as the teams other alternate captains replacing Sean Jones.

O’Kane joins the Thunder on loan

The Perth Thunder has announced that the Melbourne Mustangs have agreed to loan Patrick O’Kane for the upcoming exhibition series against the New Zealand national team. The Thunder made the deal in order to bolster their line-up due to a couple of their players being unvailable on national team duties and some of their import signings having yet to arrive in Perth.

Mustangs Announce 2014 Player Awards

The Melbourne Mustangs are the latest team to hold their 2014 awards night. The Mustangs feature a few more awards then the other teams, so listed below are the winners:

Australia Defeat Mustangs

The Australia national senior team have defeated the Melbourne Mustangs 9-3 in the first of their exhibition games being played at the Medibank Icehouse. At the end of the first period Australia led 1-0 with the only goal of the game coming from Lliam Webster. By the end of the second the Mustangs were on the board with two goals from Patrick O’Kane however Australia had increased their lead to 5-2. Australia then doubled their lead to finish the game 9-3 with the only Mustangs goal coming from Andrew Belic. Australia will now play the Melbourne Ice on 5 April before heading to Serbia to compete in the 2014 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament.
