Rebels win the 2014 ECSL Finals

The Reach Rebels have won the 2014 ECSL Grand Final series after defeating the Sting two games to one. The Rebels shutout the Sting 4-0 in Game 3 of the series to win their first championship since 2011.

Kubara Signs with the San Diego Gulls

The Sydney Ice Dogs have announced that Tyler Kubara has signed with the San Diego Gulls of the Western States Hockey League, a Tier III Junior A league in the United States, for the 2014-15 season. Kubara will join the Sydney Bears’ Cameron Todd who recently signed with the Gulls as the team captain.

2014 ECSL Finals: Game 1 and 2

The best of three ECSL Finals Series is currently tied at one game apiece after the weekend. The Sting won Game 1 on Saturday 3-2 in overtime but the Rebels fought back to win Game 2. The two teams now head to Game 3 for the decider this coming Saturday.

Mustangs Announce 2014 Player Awards

The Melbourne Mustangs are the latest team to hold their 2014 awards night. The Mustangs feature a few more awards then the other teams, so listed below are the winners:

2014 ECSL Semifinals

The 2014 ECSL semifinals were completed over the weekend with the Reach Rebels and the Sting advancing to the final this coming weekend. The ECSL employs a two game aggregate system for their semifinals, with points from Game 1 carried over to Game 2. The Rebels advanced after defeating the Sydney Heat 8-4 on agrregate, while the Sting advanced after beating the Penrith Raptors 5-4 on aggregate. The two winning teams advance to the Grand Final which is a best out of three series and starts on 20 September.

Cornford signs with Iowa Wild AAA Elite U18

Melbourne Mustangs have announced that Ethan Cornford has signed with the Iowa Wild AAA Elite U18 of the East Coast Elite League U18 division for the 2014-15 season. This will be Cornford’s first season outside of Australia having last season played for the Melbourne Whalers in the Australian Junior Ice Hockey League.
