Australian men’s U18 team staff for 2020 World Championships

Ice Hockey Australia have announced the Australian men’s under-18 national team staff for the upcoming 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament. The competition will take place from 23 to 29 March in Sofia, Bulgaria with Australia competing against Bulgaria, China, Croatia, the Netherlands and Spain.

Dave Ferrari replaces Steve Laforet as head coach after four years in the position. Dave Costa and Marc Vaillancourt come in as assistant coaches replacing Brent Laver. Ruth Brooks takes over the position of team manager from Paul Kelly and Miranda Ransome returns as team leader.

Australian men’s U18 roster for 2020 World Championships

Ice Hockey Australia have released the Australian men’s under-18 national team roster for the upcoming 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament. The competition will take place from 23 to 29 March in Sofia, Bulgaria with Australia competing against Bulgaria, China, Croatia, the Netherlands and Spain.

Changes to the team from the 2020 World Championships include the additions of Mitchell Choi, Dillon Dewar, Nicholas Doornbos, Luke Doyle, Dmitri Kuleshov, Maxim Lyashenko, Noah Maley, Patrick Sucher and Easton Robitaille. Kale Costa returns to the team after being named in 2019 but didn’t end up playing. While players dropped include Nathaniel Benson, Declan Bronte, Jakob Doornbos, Zachery Gumm, Marcus Hosen, Reece Lukowiak, Max Miller, Thomas Moncrieff and Kalin Njirich.

Bulgaria to host 2020 U18 World Championship Division II Group B

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) have announced that the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria from 23 to 29 March 2020. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in Tianjin, China but has been relocated due to the coronavirus outbreak in China. The Australian men’s under-18 team is one of six teams in this tournament along with Bulgaria, China, Croatia, the Netherlands and Spain.

2020 U18 World Championship Division II Group B to be relocated

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) have announced that the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament will be relocated away from the originally planned Tianjin, China. The Australian men’s under-18 team is one of six teams in this tournament along with Bulgaria, China, Croatia, the Netherlands and Spain. The change in venue is due to the coronavirus outbreak in China and follows talks with the Chinese Ice Hockey Association. Hosting applications for the tournament have now been opened to the other five participating members. The IIHF expects to announce the new venue and date of the tournament in due time.
