The 2016-17 Australian Junior Ice Hockey League season is expected kick off mid-December, pushed back from the previous seasons October start. New South Wales and Western Australia will maintain their two teams in the competition while Victoria has opted to fold one of their two teams for the season. It is currently unclear which of the two Melbourne teams has been axed by the state. Last year’s Tier 2 teams based in the ACT, Queensland and South Australia are also expected to return. A format for the for the season has yet to be released by the league.
