Defenceman Brian Funes recently completed his second season playing for HC Lidköping in the HockeyTrean. Having last played for Lidköping in 2017-18 Funes joined the club for the 2019-20 season where he recorded five points in 29 games. Locally Funes is a member of the AIHL’s Sydney Bears, having been part of the team since 2016 after moving across from the Sydney Ice Dogs. Since debuting in the AIHL in 2011 Funes has recorded 65 points from 240 games and won two Goodall Cups, one with the Ice Dogs in 2013 and one with the Bears in 2019.
Funes is a member of the Australian men’s national team having played in five World Championships since 2013. He was also named on the roster for the 2020 World Championships before their cancellation. Funes has also been part of the men’s under-18 and under-20 national teams in 2009 and 2011 respectively. In the national championships Funes has represented New South Wales on two occasions in the Brown tournament.
