Continuing our look at the Australian players who were competing overseas during the 2022–23 season. Today is Part 1 of 2 featuring Australians in Sweden.
Max Åhlström: Fourth season with Bäcken HC. Primarily playing for the club’s under-20 team in the J20 Region Åhlström recorded a 0.903 save percentage and a 4.21 goals against average from 30 games. Near the end of the season Åhlström was re-assigned to the club’s senior team for the HockeyTvåan playoffs where he competed in two, recording a 0.868 save percentage. Åhlström was also loaned out to HockeyTrean club Partille HK during the season where he competed in ten games.
Tyler Colev: First season in Sweden. Playing for Nyköpings SK’s under-18 team in the J18 Division 1 Colev competed in 18 games. Heading into 2023–24 Colev has re-signed with Nyköpings SK for a second season in the J18 Division 1.
Adrian Esposito: Second season in Sweden and first season 2017–18. Playing for Lerums BK in the HockeyTrean Esposito competed in eight games, recording two penalty minutes.
Felix Fuentes: Second season with Mjölby HC. Playing on their under-18 team in the J18 Division 1 Fuentes competed in nine games, recording two penalty minutes. Heading into 2023–24 he has signed with Linköping Mighty Ravens to play for their under-18 team in the J18 Division 2.
Mackenzie Gallagher: First season in Sweden. Playing for Hässelby Kälvesta’s under-20 team in the J20 Division 1 Gallagher recorded two goals and an assist from his eleven games.
Jakob Ihs Wozniak: Second season with Luleå HF. Primarily playing for their under-18 team in the J18 Region and the J18 Nationell Ihs Wozniak recorded 55 points in 38 games. He also made brief appearances for Luleå HF’s under-16 team and under-20 team in the U16 SM and J20 Nationell respectively. In representative hockey Ihs Wozniak made his debut for the Swedish under-16 national team, playing seven games and recording eight points, and competed for Norrbotten in the TV-Pucken tournament.
