Melbourne Ice
– The Ice have announced the signing of Sandy Gardner, Brent Laver and Glen Mayer as assistant coaches for the upcoming 2019 season. Gardner moves into the role having acted as interim head coach for the second half of the 2018 season, while Laver takes on the position having been development coach for the past two seasons. Mayer returns to the club, having previously been an assistant coach from 2014 to 2016.
– The Ice’s second annual pre-season Hockey Festival, Hockey X, will be held on 29-31 March 2019 and will feature four AIHL clubs, a Queensland All-Star team and the New Zealand men’s national team.

Hockey Festival: Melbourne 2018

The Melbourne Ice have won the 2018 Hockey Festival’s Warrior Cup, defeating the Melbourne Mustangs 3-2 in the final. The Hockey Festival was hosted at the O’Brien Group Arena by the Melbourne Ice with a round-robin on day one and the playoffs on day two. The top two teams of the round-robin advanced to the final while the bottom two played off for third. The Mustangs finished on top of the standings at the end of day one but fell to the Ice in the final. The Adelaide Adrenaline defeated the CBR Brave in their playoff to pick up third place.
