2015 ECSL season: Round 22

Round 22 of the 2015 East Coast Super League season has finished with wins for the Newcastle North Stars and Penrith Raptors while the North Stars and Reach Rebels played out a one-all draw. The Sting remain on top of the standings, edging out both the Rebels and North Stars only on goal difference. Next week all six teams are in action across three games.

2015 ECSL season: Round 21

Round 21 of the 2015 East Coast Super League season has finished with wins for the Newcastle North Stars, Sydney Heat, the Sting and Reach Rebels. The Sting remain on top of the standings, one point clear of the second placed Rebels. Next week the North Stars take on the Rebels in Canterbury and then host the Blueline Bombers in Newcastle on the Sunday.

USA Eagles win the 2015 Australian International Ice Hockey Cup

The USA Eagles have won the 2015 Australian International Ice Hockey Cup after defeating the Canada Maples 12-2 in Game 9 at the Sydney Ice Arena. The USA Eagles take the series five games to four and successfully defended their 2014 title which they won six games to three.

Game 9 to determine the winner of the Australian International Ice Hockey Cup

The 2015 Australian International Ice Hockey Cup remains tied after eight games. In Game 7 the Canada Maples defeated the USA Eagles 10-7 at the Erina Ice Arena while in Game 8 the USA Eagles beat Canada 9-6 to keep the series alive. Competition concludes on 11 July with Game 9 decider being held at the Sydney Ice Arena.

Australian International Ice Hockey Cup still level after six games

The 2015 Australian International Ice Hockey Cup remains tied after six games. In Game 5 the Canada Maples defeated the USA Eagles 9-4 at the Sydney Ice Arena while in Game 6 the USA Eagles needed a shootout to beat Canada in order to keep the series tied up. Competition resumes on Wednesday with Game 7 being held at the Erina Ice Arena.

Australian International Ice Hockey Cup remains tied after four games

The 2015 Australian International Ice Hockey Cup remains tied after four games. In Game 3 the Canada Maples defeated the USA Eagles 6-4 at the Erina Ice Arena. The following day the two teams returned to the Sydney Ice Arena where the USA Eagles recorded ten goals to the Canada Maples six to get their second win of the tournament. Competition resumes tomorrow with Game 5 being held at the Sydney Ice Arena.

2015 Australian International Ice Hockey Cup gets underway

The 2015 Australian International Ice Hockey Cup got underway yesterday with the Canada Maples defeating the USA Eagles 4-3 following a shootout in Game One. The series was then leveled today with the USA Eagles claiming a 5-4 shootout win in Game Two. The tournament is in its seventh year and will run from 27 June to 11 July with games being held at the Sydney Ice Arena and the Erina Ice Arena. Last years tournament was won by the USA Eagles who defeated the Canada Maples six games to three.

2014-15 AWIHL Season: Round 9

Round 9 of the 2014-15 AWIHL has finished with the Melbourne Ice winning both of their games against the Sydney Sirens. The Ice increase their lead in the regular season with the second placed Sirens now 18 points behind. Next week the Adelaide Adrenaline are in Brisbane for a double header against the Goannas in the final round of the regular season.

Sydney Bears relocate to Penrith Ice Palace

The Sydney Bears have announced that they will be moving to the Penrith Ice Palace for the upcoming 2015 AIHL season. The Bears previously played out of Penrith from 2007 to 2011 before relocating to the Sydney Ice Arena in Baulkham Hills. The move comes after the Sydney Ice Arena’s owners were granted permission to develop the site on which the ice rink sits.

Sydney Ice Arena site development approved

The Hills Shire Times have reported that The Hills Shire councillors have approved plans to develop the site on which the Sydney Ice Arena sits. The plan submitted by the owners Hillsong and develops Capital Corp outlines the intention to replace the ice arena with a 20-storey development.

The Sydney Ice Arena is currently home to the Sydney Bears and the Norwest Emperors Ice Hockey Club, and hosts the Australian International Ice Hockey Cup along with the Erina Ice Arena. The plans have also left the home arena for the Bears in doubt for the upcoming 2015 AIHL season, with their home venue currently listed as “to be announced” on the draft schedule released by the AIHL.
