Newcastle North Stars player Ray Sheffield has announced his retirement after 13 seasons with the club. His announcement comes just weeks after being awarded the captaincy for the 2015 season and the decision is said to have been made after being told by the head coach that he would receive limited game time. Sheffield will remain with the club as an assistant coach.
The club have yet to announce a successor to the captaincy role.
