2015 Australian International Ice Hockey Cup gets underway

The 2015 Australian International Ice Hockey Cup got underway yesterday with the Canada Maples defeating the USA Eagles 4-3 following a shootout in Game One. The series was then leveled today with the USA Eagles claiming a 5-4 shootout win in Game Two. The tournament is in its seventh year and will run from 27 June to 11 July with games being held at the Sydney Ice Arena and the Erina Ice Arena. Last years tournament was won by the USA Eagles who defeated the Canada Maples six games to three.

2015 ECSL season: Round 12

Round 12 of the 2015 East Coast Super League has finished with wins for the Reach Rebels and Newcastle North Stars. The Rebels, who fell to second last week, move back into first place on the standings, edging out the Sting on goal difference. Next week all six teams are in action across four games.

2015 AIHL season: Round 10

Round 10 of the 2015 Australian Ice Hockey League season has finished with wins for the Melbourne Ice, Sydney Bears, Newcastle North Stars, CBR Brave, Melbourne Mustangs and Adelaide Adrenaline. The North Stars move into first place and are three points clear of the second placed Perth Thunder. Next week all eight teams are in action across seven games.

Following their win over the Melbourne Ice the Sydney Bears claimed the second Canada Day Cup which is the clubs first trophy since they won the 2008 regular season title. The Bears won the inaugural title in 2014, beating the Ice 3-1.

AIHL player news: 23 June 2015

Perth Thunder

  • The Thunder announced that import Luke Judson will be leaving the club to return to Canada for surgery on an injury he sustained early in the season. Judson played in only nine games for the team, recording five goals and eight assists. Judson’s import spot on the team was filled last week with the signing of Alex Hudson.

Team Canada claim Ice Hockey Classic Cup

Team Canada have defeated Team USA 6-3 in the final game of the 2015 Canada vs USA Ice Hockey Classic at the Perth Arena. Canada take the series 3-1 and claim the inaugural Ice Hockey Classic Cup.

In the pre-game event at the Arena the Perth Thunder defeated the Melbourne Mustangs 4-3 to move six points clear in the AIHL regular season standings.

2015 AIHL Season: Round 9

Round 9 of the 2015 Australian Ice Hockey League season has finished with wins for the Newcastle North Stars, Perth Thunder, Sydney Bears and Melbourne Mustangs. Of note the game involving the Perth Thunder and Melbourne Mustangs at the Perth Arena as a pre-game event to the Canada v USA Ice Hockey Classic match saw the Thunder defeat the Mustangs 4-3 in front of a 2,000 strong crowd. The Thunder remain on top of the standings, three points clear of the second placed North Stars. Round 10 starts this Thursday with the Mustangs taking on the Ice in Melbourne and then six games are scheduled for the weekend. Seven of the eight teams are in action with only the Perth Thunder sitting out the round on a bye.

2015 ECSL Season: Round 11

Round 11 of the 2015 East Coast Super League has finished with wins for the Blueline Bombers and the Sting. Following their win the Sting move into first place on the standings, two points clear of the Reach Rebels. Next week the Rebels takes on the Bombers in Canterbury and the Newcastle North Stars travel to Penrith to take on the Raptors.
