Round 9 of the 2016 Australian Ice Hockey League season has finished with wins for the Sydney Bears, Newcastle North Stars and Melbourne Mustangs. The Melbourne Ice remain on top of the standings, ten points clear of the second placed Perth Thunder. Next week all eight teams are in action across eight games over the weekend.
The match between the Melbourne Ice and Sydney Bears also served as the third annual Canada Day Classic. The Bears defeated the Ice to win for the third year straight. The Bears won 3-1 in 2014 and in 2015 they defeated the Ice 6-4. The Ice Dogs’ David Dunwoodie competed in his 300th AIHL game in the match at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium. Dunwoodie is the second player to pass the 300 game mark, joining the Adelaide Adrenaline’s Greg Oddy.
