2020 U18 Women’s World Championships: Australia win opening game

The Australian women’s national under-18 team have won their opening game of the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship Division II Group A tournament, defeating Kazakhstan 3-2 in overtime. Captain Lindsey Kiliwnik was named best Australian player of the match. In the other game of the day Chinese Taipei upset top seed the Netherlands with a 2-1 win. At the end of the first round Australia sit second in the standings, one point behind Chinese Taipei. Australia takes on the Netherlands today for their second game of the tournament. This will be the first time these two teams have met having previously always played at different levels of the World Championships.
