The Sydney Heat will return to the East Coast Super League (ECSL) for the 2021 season after a five year hiatus. The Heat was an inaugural team in the ECSL, competing from 2002 to 2015, and won the 2003 ECSL Championship. The team then folded following the 2015 season after Ice Hockey NSW instructed the league to reduce itself to five teams.
