A new professional ice hockey league, the National Hockey Super League (NHSL), was announced today. The leagues first season is set to begin November and will feature three South Australian based clubs, the Adelaide Xtreme, Noarlunga Stars and Port Adelaide Brewers. The NSHL will hold a player draft in mid-October and will play its games out of the Adelaide Ice Arena.
The league also announced plans to expand into a national format for the 2022-23 season and is aiming for a total of 15 teams across Australia by 2023. The league itself is owned by The Ice Arena (South Australia) Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Agile Group who is also the naming rights sponsor of the Adelaide Adrenaline.
