2022 Men’s U20 World Championships: Australia defeats Kyrgyzstan in the quarterfinals

The Australian men’s national under-20 team have defeated Kyrgyzstan 5–1 in their quarterfinal of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division III tournament. Captain Ethan Hawes was named best Australian player of the match. In the other three quarterfinal games Mexico defeated Turkey 5–2, Chinese Taipei beat South Africa 7–2 and Israel defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 7–3.

The teams have a rest day today and return on 29 July for the semifinals and the 7th–8th placement match. Australia will take on Mexico in the first semifinal, Chinese Taipei will play Israel in the second semifinal and Kyrgyzstan takes on South Africa for seventh place. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey have an additional rest day before returning on 30 July for the 5th–6th placement match. Australia last met Mexico at the World Championships in 2020 where they won 8–3.
