The Canberra Pirates have been competing in the 2022 Ice Hockey NSW Women’s League season during the absence of the Australian Women’s Tier 2 Show Case Series (AW2SCS). Coverage of the Pirates will continue in 2023 with the hopeful return of the AW2SCS.
The Canberra Pirates started the month of September with their last game of the 2022 Ice Hockey NSW Women’s League regular season which saw them lose to the Bears and finish second on the standings with 26 points.
Heading into the playoffs the Pirates were drawn against the Newcastle Northstars in their semifinal. The Pirates defeated the Northstars 4–2 at the Phillip Ice Skating Centre and advance to the final against the Sydney Bears who had qualified with a win over the Canterbury Eagles in the other semifinal. In the final the Pirates held the Bears to a scoreless first period before allowing two goals in the second. Both teams scored a goal in the the third with the game finishing as a 1–3 loss for the Pirates.
