Continuing our look at the Australian players who were competing overseas during the 2022–23 season. Today is Part 1 of 5 featuring Australians in Canada.
Justin Barker: Third season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and second with the Calgary Canucks. Taking on the role of captain for the season Barker recorded 69 points from 65 games. On 1 June he signed a college commitment with Stonehill College, which competes in the NCAA’s Division I, for the 2023–24 season.
Calvin Bright: Second season with the Valley West Giants. Primarily playing on their under-17 AAA team in the BC Elite Hockey League U17 AAA division Bright recorded nine points from 35 games. He also competed in nine games with their under-18 AAA team in the BC Elite Hockey League U18 AAA division and made a one game appearance for the Langley Trappers in the Pacific Junior Hockey League.
Logan Brodie: After spending the off-season representing New South Wales at the 2022 Kurt Defris National Championship Brodie returned for his second season with the Canadian International Hockey Academy. Primarily playing on their Voyageurs under-18 AAA team in the Hockey Eastern Ontario U18 AAA division Brodie recorded 14 points from 38 games. He also competed in five games with their Voyageurs under-17 Prep team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League Eastern U17 division and joined The Rockers Jr. A for the Elite Hockey Prep Camp.
Fred Coutts: Seventh season in the SaskAlta Senior Hockey League. Playing for the Elk Point Elks, after his former team the Two Hills Longhorns withdrew from the competition, Coutts recorded six points from eleven games.
Emily Davis-Tope: After spending the off-season representing the Australian women’s team at the 2022 World Championships Davis-Tope returned for her fourth season with Ontario Tech University. Playing in the U Sports women’s hockey program Davis-Tope competed in 26 games, recording two goals and six penalty minutes.
