Continuing our look at the Australian players who were competing overseas during the 2022–23 season. Today is Part 2 of 5 featuring Australians in Canada.
Natasha Dube: First season with the East Ottawa Stars. Playing on their under-18 AA team Dube competed in the Ontario Women’s Hockey League’s U18 AA division where she recorded seven points from 19 games. Dube also played in an additional 54 games across other U18 AA tournaments and exhibition matches, recording 33 points. During the season Dube also took time away from East Ottawa to represent Australia at the 2023 U18 Women’s World Championships.
Tobie Gilchrist: After spending the off-season representing Victoria at the 2022 Kurt Defris National Championship and the 2022 Sydney Tange National Championship Gilchrist joined the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy for his first season. Playing on their Sea Devils U16 Prep team Gilchrist competed in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League U16 division where he recorded 11 points from 36 games.
Thomas Harrow: First season with the Grey-Bruce Highlanders. Playing on their under-18 AAA team in the South Central Triple A Hockey League U18 division Harrow recorded eight goals and six assists from 40 games.
Ethan Hawes: After spending the off-season with the Newcastle Northstars in the Australian Ice Hockey League Hawes moved to Canada for his first season, having spent the previous five in the United States. Playing for the Oceanside Generals in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League Hawes recorded 27 points from 49 games. During the season Hawes also took time away from Oceanside to captain the Australian men’s under-20 team at the 2023 U20 World Championships.
Kai Hughes: Second season with the Port Moody Panthers. Playing in the Pacific Junior Hockey League Hughes recorded nine goals, six assists and 82 penalty minutes from his 32 games.
