The Australian Junior Ice Hockey League will consist of four teams for the 2023–24 season, following the addition of the Sun Devils and the withdrawal of the Brisbane Blitz and Northern Wolf Pack. The Sun Devils will join the three returning teams: the Adelaide Generals, Melbourne Glaciers, and Sydney Sabres.

The newly formed Sun Devils appear to be made up of players from multiple states. The current team list includes players who have previously competed for the Adelaide Generals, Brisbane Blitz, Melbourne Glaciers, and Perth Sharks.

The Brisbane Blitz were founded in 2016 and initially competed in the Tier 2 Wild Card Tournament, which they won to qualify for a place in the 2016 AJIHL playoffs. The following season, the club joined the main competition as one of the three teams in the Brisbane/Sydney Conference (later renamed the Northern Division). Between 2016 and 2023, the Blitz won three conference titles and qualified for the playoffs on seven occasions. Their best result came in the 2022–23 season when they finished second to the Adelaide Generals.

The Northern Wolf Pack were founded in 2012 as one of the four inaugural teams. Initially competing as the Sydney Maple Leafs in their debut season, they rebranded as the Sydney Wolf Pack for the 2013–14 season and changed to their final name of the Northern Wolf Pack in 2022. In their nine seasons of competition, the Wolf Pack won the AJIHL Finals on two occasions, in 2013 and 2015, and claimed the 2019–20 regular season title.
