Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) have announced their timeline for the staged implementation of mandatory neck laceration protection. This follows the first stage of the rollout which saw the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League (AWIHL) introduce the requirement for neck guards on 13 January 2024. Following the AWIHL, the next stage will be on 1 March 2024 which will require neck guards for all IHA sanctioned competitions with body checking. Then on 1 July 2024 the rollout will be completed with the requirement for neck guards in all IHA sanctioned competitions.
Timeline
- 13 January 2024: Neck guards become mandatory for the AWIHL
- 1 March 2024: Neck guards become mandatory for competitions with body checking
- 1 July 2024: Neck guards become mandatory for all competitions
