Melbourne Mustangs announce nine new signings

The Melbourne Mustangs have added nine new signings to their roster for the 2024 Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) season.

Malaysian forward Mohd Hariz Ananda spent the 2023–24 season playing for the Outlaws in the Malaysian Ice Hockey League where he recorded six goals and eight assists from six games. Ananda has also represented the Malaysia at the Asian Winter Games, IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia, and IIHF World Championships.

Forward Oliver Ashby spent the 2023–24 season playing for the Seattle Jr. Kraken 18U AAA in the North American T1er Hockey League’s 18U division and independent 18U AAA competitions. In total he participated in 25 games for Seattle, scoring four goals and three assists. During last year’s 2023 season Ashby competed in Ice Hockey Victoria’s Premier League for the Blackhawks Ice Hockey Club.

Forward Justin Dixon spent the 2023 season playing for the Melbourne Ice where he recorded a goal and four assists from 15 games. More recently Dixon captained the Australian national under-20 team at the IIHF World U20 Championships.

Defender Mike Giorgi spent the 2023 season playing for the CBR Brave where he recorded a goal and nine assists from 25 games. Since making his league debut in 2014 he has competed in 54 AIHL games and recorded 33 points.

New Zealand forward Matheson Graham last played during the 2022 season for the Canterbury Red Devils in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League (NZIHL) where he recorded four goals and two assists from twelve games. In total he has spent five seasons playing in the NZIHL, competing in 41 games and recording 24 points.

Defender Jacob Haley returns to the Mustangs having last played for the club in 2022. Since making his league debut in 2018 he has competed in 23 AIHL games and recorded one point. During the 2023 season Haley played for the Braves Ice Hockey Club in Ice Hockey Victoria’s Premier League.

Forward Adam Harper last played during the 2022–23 season for Pacific Coast Academy U16 Prep in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League’s U18 division where he recorded three points from 34 games. He is also a former member of the Pacific Hockey League’s Melbourne Ducks.

Japanese forward Yuga Kikuchi spent the 2023 season playing for the Melbourne Ice where he scored a goal and six assists from 18 games.

Forward Nick Ponomarev spent the 2023–24 season playing for the South Shore Kings in the United States Premier Hockey League’s Premier division where he scored four goals and four assists from 38 games. Prior to joining South Shore, Ponomarev had spent two seasons playing in the Canadian High School Hockey system and a season in the East Coast Elite League’s 18U division.
