The Melbourne Ice have defeated the Brisbane Lighting 5–0 in their preliminary round game of the 2024 Goodall Cup playoffs. Melbourne had qualified for the match after finishing the regular season in second on the Hellyer Conference standings and Brisbane had qualified following their third-place finish on the Rurak Conference standings. Melbourne now advances to the semifinal round on 24 August where they will take on the Newcastle Northstars at the O’Brien Icehouse.
