Newcastle Northstars announced seven re-signings

The Newcastle Northstars have announced the re-signing of Mackenzie Gallagher, Ethan Hawes, Hayden Klugerman, Riley Klugerman, Matthew Montgomery, Ethan Spelde, and Maliq West for the upcoming 2025 Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) season.

Forward Mackenzie Gallagher played 31 games for Newcastle in 2024, recording four assists. Since making his league debut in 2022, he as competed in 78 AIHL games and recorded 15 points.

Defenceman Ethan Hawes played 26 games for the club in 2024, scoring four goals and 24 assists. Since making his league debut in 2022, he has competed in 66 AIHL games and recorded 69 points. During the AIHL’s offseason, Hawes has been playing for Eindhoven Kemphanen of the Eredivisie where he currently has 24 points from 27 games.

Forward Hayden Klugerman played 17 games for Newcastle in his 2024 debut season, scoring a goal and an assist. During the AIHL’s offseason, he has been playing for the Ventura Vikings in the United States Premier Hockey League’s Premier division where he currently has five points from 16 games.

Forward Riley Klugerman played two games for the club in 2024, scoring four goals and four assists. Since making his league debut in 2023, he has competed in 23 AIHL games and recorded 56 points. During the AIHL’s offseason, Klugerman has been playing for Concordia University Wisconsin in the NCAA’s Division III where he currently has 15 points from 27 games.

Goaltender Matthew Montgomery played one game for Newcastle in 2024, recording a 0.963 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average. Since making his league debut in 2023, he has competed in four AIHL games and averages a save percentage of 0.885.

Goaltender Ethan Spelde played one game for the club in 2024, recording a save percentage of 0.667 and a goals against average of 11.48. Since making his league debut in 2022, he has competed in ten AIHL games and averages a 0.826 save percentage.

Foward Maliq West played 23 games for Newcastle in 2024, scoring two goals and for assists. Since making his league debut in 2023, he has competed in 26 AIHL games and recorded six points. During the AIHL’s offseason, West has been playing for the Kenora Islanders in the Superior International Junior Hockey League where he currently has four points from 25 games.
