
The Newcastle Northstars have announced the re-signing of Wehebe Darge, Charlie Smart, Shane Southwood, Tim Stanger, Beau Taylor, and Patrick Ward for the upcoming 2025 Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) season.
Forward Wehebe Darge played 16 games for Newcastle in 2024, scoring 16 goals and 17 assists. Since making his league debut in 2009, he has competed in 286 AIHL games and recorded 489 points.
Goaltender Charlie Smart played 22 games for the club in 2024. During the regular season, he recorded a 0.890 save percentage and a 3.42 goals against average. In the playoffs, Smart posted a save percentage of 0.907 and a goals against average of 4.00. Since making his league debut in 2015, he has competed in 134 AIHL games and averages a 0.885 save percentage in the regular season and a 0.916 save percentage during the playoffs.
Forward Shane Southwood played 20 games for Newcastle in 2024, scoring a goal and two assists. Since making his league debut in 2014, he has competed in 221 AIHL games and recorded 61 points.
Defenceman Tim Stanger played 26 games for the club in 2024, recording an assist. Since making his league debut in 2008, he has competed in 273 AIHL games and recorded 42 points.
Forward Beau Taylor played 30 games for Newcastle in 2024, scoring 17 goals and 24 assists. Since making his league debut in 2007, he has competed in 185 AIHL games and recorded 233 points.
Defenceman Patrick Ward played one game for Newcastle in 2024 before being forced out for the rest of the season due to injury. Since making his league debut in 2013, he has competed in 227 AIHL games and recorded 83 points.
