2016 World Championships: Australia win Division II Group B

The Australian men’s national team have defeated New Zealand 6-2 in their final game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group B tournament, finishing first in the standings and earning promotion back to Division II Group A for 2017. Anthony Kimlin was named best player of the match and best goaltender of the tournament. Paul Baranzelli was named the tournaments best defenceman and Wehebe Darge was selected as the best Australian player of the tournament and the tournament MVP. In other games of the day Israel beat Bulgaria 5-3 and Mexico defeated North Korea 5-3. Bulgaria, who finished the tournament in last place, is relegated to Division III for 2017.

The Australian men’s national team have won their fourth game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating North Korea 22-1. Defenceman Robert Malloy was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day New Zealand defeated Bulgaria 14-1 and Mexico beat Israel 9-3. At the end of the forth round Australia remain in first place, one point clear of the second place Mexico. Australia take on New Zealand today in their final game of the tournament.

Forward Thomas Powell was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day North Korea defeated New Zealand 7-4 and Mexico beat Bulgaria 10-1. After the end of the third round Australia remain in first place, one point clear of the second place Mexico. The teams have a rest day today and return on Thursday with Australia taking on North Korea.

After the end of the second round Australia have moved to first place in the standings, one point clear of the second place Mexico. The teams have had a rest day today and return to the ice tomorrow with Australia taking on Israel in their third game.
