The Southern Suns have won the 2016 Ultimate Ice Hockey Championship (UIHC) two games to one and claim their first tournament title. The Suns lost the opening game of the tournament continuing the Northern Stars unbeaten streak from 2015 where they won all three games and claimed the inaugural UIHC Cup. The Suns however bounced back winning Game 2 at the Perth Ice Arena before claiming the series in Game 3 at the Cockburn Ice Arena. The Suns defenceman Jamie Woodman was named the tournaments most valuable player.

will play in his 100th regular season game tonight in the match against the Melbourne Ice. Cox sits behind only Jordan Kyros and Sam Wilson in the number of games played for the club.
Ales Padelek has left the club to return home to the Czech Republic in order to spend some time with his family before starting the 2015-16 season with the Peterborough Phantoms of the English Premier Ice Hockey League. Padelek initially joined the club as a temporary replacement for the injured Tomas Landa but was promoted to a permanent spot on the teams lineup. He finishes the AIHL season with 26 points in 17 games, which included 12 goals.
The Perth Thunder held their 2014 team awards night on Thursday. Mathieu Dugas won the Most Valuable Player award, Jamie Woodman was named the Best Defenceman and Rookie of the Year and Andrew Cox won the award for best Aussie Player of the Year.
