2017 U20 World Championships: Australia lose opener to Spain

The Australian men’s national under-20 team have lost their opening game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, going down to Spain 2-15. Forward Brendan Kong was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Belgium defeated Mexico 5-3 and South Korea beat Serbia 3-2 following a shootout. After the end of the first round Australia sit in last place on the standings, three points behind the leaders Spain. Australia take on Mexico today in their second game of the tournament.

Spain defeat Australia U20

The Australian men’s national under-20 team lost their second game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, losing to Spain 3-9. Forward Casey Kubara was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Romania defeated Belgium 6-2 and Serbia shutout China 10-0. After the end of the second round Australia sit in fifth place, trailing leaders Romania by six points. The teams now have a rest day and return to the ice on Wednesday with Australia taking on Belgium.

Australia U20 lose to Spain

The Australian men’s under-20 team have lost their fourth game of the 2015 IIHF U20 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, losing to spain 2-5. Yucca Reinecke was named best Australian player of the game. In other games of the day Serbia defeated Iceland 4-2 and Croatia beat Belgium 5-2. After round four of the tournament Australia remains in fourth place, eight points behind the leaders Spain and Croatia. Round five sees Australia take on bottom placed Iceland in their final game of the tournament.
