Australia U18 win Game One of World Championships

The Australian under-18 team have won their first game of the 2014 IIHF U18 Championship Division III Group A tournament defeating Chinese Taipei 2-1. Australia got on the scoreboard first with Anthony Barnes scoring early in the second period. Five minutes later Australia scored on the power play with Kieren Webster recording the teams second goal off an assist from Jamie Campbell. Chinese Taipei got one back early in the third with a goal from Lu Ping-En bringing the score to 2-1. They then pulled their goaltender with less than a minute to go in the game however failed to convert with the man advantage. Daniel Pataky was named best Australian player for the game.

In the other games of the tournament Israel defeated New Zealand 7-2 and Bulgaria beat Mexico 3-2. Australia is currently third in the standings due to goal difference and are scheduled to play hosts Bulgaria at 20:00 local time tonight.
