The Australian under-18 team have won their second game in a row at the 2014 IIHF U18 Championship Division III Group A tournament defeating Mexico 3-2. Australia took the lead midway through the first period with a goal from Jamie Campbell. The team then held their one goal advantage until the 36th minute of the game when Mexico’s Arunas Bermejo leveled the scores. Australia however bounced back with two goals in two minutes from Ryan Smith and Casey Kubara to go into the break with a 3-1 lead. Australia led with their two goal advantage right into the last minute of the game before Mexico’s Aleksei Gendron got one past Tynan Theobald. Australia managed to hold on to their lead and the game finished 3-2. Joshua Hansen was named Australia’s best player of the game.

In the other games of the day Israel easily accounted for Chinese Taipei with a 7-3 win and New Zealand snuck past Bulgaria with a goal in the last minute to win 5-4. With their third win of the tournament Australia now move to outright first in the standings and are three points clear of Israel, Mexico and Bulgaria. The teams will now take a days break before returning on Sunday to play their final game which will see Australia take on New Zealand.
