2016 Winter Youth Olympics Skills Challenge: Day One

The 2016 Winter Youth Olympics Ice Hockey Skills Challenge got underway yesterday in Lillehammer, Norway. Australia is represented by Jake Riley in the Men’s Skills Challenge and by Madison Poole in the Women’s Skills Challenge. Both competitions are currently in the Qualification phase with the Men’s running on the 13th and 15th and the Women’s running on the 13th and 14th.

After completing the Fastest Lap and Shooting Accuracy skills Jake Riley is currently sitting in fifth place out of sixteen overall. In the Fastest Lap he scored only one point and finished in ninth place while in the Shooting Accuracy Riley scored three points and finished in third place. Riley currently has four points in total, three behind the leader Natan Vertes from Hungary.

In the Women’s Skills Challenge Madison Poole is currently sitting in second place out of sixteen after completing the Fastest Lap and Shooting Accuracy skills. Poole won the Fastest Lap and scored the maximum five points while in the Shooting Accuracy she finished in fifth place and scored two points. Poole currently has a total of seven points, equal with the leader Sena Takenaka of Japan.
