The Sydney Bears have defeated the Newcastle North Stars 5-3 in Game 5 of the 2016 Wilson Cup. The win gives the Bears their third win from as many games while defending champions, the North Stars, finish the tournament without a win.
In Game 6 the Sydney Ice Dogs defeated the Sydney Bears 2-1 following a shootout. The Bears opened the scoring with five minutes to go in the second period with a goal from Tomas Landa. The Ice Dogs left it to the last minute of regular time to respond with the equaliser before going on to win in the shootout.
The two teams will meet again next week for the final of the Wilson Cup which will be held on 16 April at the Penrith Ice Palace.
