The Newcastle North Stars have announced the signing of goaltender Charlie Smart for the upcoming 2017 season. Smart spent last season playing for the Sydney Ice Dogs and has been playing for the Bozeman Icedogs of the North American 3 Hockey League in the offseason. The signing of Smart comes after last season’s starting goaltender Dayne Davis declined to re-sign citing interest from other clubs. Smart joins Nicholas Mizen on the roster. Mizen played five games last season for the North Stars and has been playing for the Steele County Blades of the United States Premier Hockey League’s Elite Division during the offseason.
