Team Canada have defeated Team USA 7-5 at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium. The match, known as the 2017 Ice Hockey Night in Newcastle, was the opener for the 2017 Ice Hockey Classic series which now moves to Sydney for the 17 June game at the Qudos Bank Arena.
