IIHF cancels the majority of the 2021 World Championships

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) have announced the cancellation of all but four tournaments from the 2021 World Championship program. The move follows their earlier decision to cancel the entire women’s under-18 World Championship series of tournaments and the men’s under-20 World Championship lower division tournaments back in September. The only tournaments that will be held this season are the top division tournaments of the men’s, women’s, men’s under-20 (junior) and men’s under-18 categories.

The decision affects the Australian men’s, women’s and men’s under-18 teams who were still scheduled to appear at their respective tournaments in 2021. Ice Hockey Australia had already withdrawn the men’s under-20 and women’s under-18 teams from their respective tournaments in August.
