Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) and the New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation (NZIHF) have announced that they will hold a Trans-Tasman All Star game at the end of the 2022 season. An exact date and location for the game have yet to be announced.

The Australian Ice Hockey League and New Zealand Ice Hockey League previously organised the Trans-Tasman Champions League. The tournament which ran only in 2012 was won by the Melbourne Ice. From 2017 to 2019 the Australian and New Zealand national teams competed against each other at the New Zealand Winter Games. New Zealand had won the last two best-of-three tournament two games to one.

Update (17 August 2022): The All Star Game appears to have been replaced by the 2022 Trans-Tasman Ice Hockey Challenge, a three game tournament between the Australian and New Zealand men’s national teams.

  1. Has there been any updates to this? I’ve not heard a peep about any prep for this, where it is going to be hosted or when it will be played.

Is there any chance you could add the NZIHL season dates to the ongoing completions list on the side? If the league will impact on the AIHL schedule through this all-stars game, might be handy to quickly know when the NZIHL will finish each season. Just a thought. I do find these dates on the side very useful.

  2. Haven’t heard anything either or seen anything from the New Zealand side. The Winter Games NZ is scheduled for 27 August to 11 September so I wonder if they try and line it up with that?

I can add the NZIHL dates to the side-bar, no problem.
