The Australian women’s national team have defeated Turkey 7–0 in their opening game of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament. Matilda Pethrick was named best Australian player of the match. In the other game of the day Iceland defeated South Africa 10–1. Australia currently sits second on the standings, trailing Iceland on goal difference. The team returns to action on 19 May when they take on Croatia. These two teams last met at the 2020 World Championships where Australia won 15–0.
