Australians overseas 2021-22: Sweden (part 2)

Continuing our look at the Australian players who were competing overseas during the 2021-22 season. Today is Part 2 of 2 featuring Australians in Sweden.

Tim Newmark: Second season in Sweden and first since 2019-20. Playing for Hisingens IK in the HockeyTvåan Newmark recorded one point from 24 games.

Thomas Steven: First season in Sweden after spending the previous six in the United States. Playing for GSK Hockey in the HockeyTvåan Steven recorded 23 points from 46 games. In June 2022 he signed with Kungälvs IK for 2022-23 HockeyTvåan season.

Vidar Sundqvist: First season with Saltsjöbadens IF. Playing on their under-16 team in the U16 Division 2 Sundqvist recorded three points and 54 penalty minutes from eleven games.

Riley Tonks: Third season in Sweden. Playing for Hässelby Kälvesta Tonks split his time between the club’s under-18 team in the J18 Division 1 and their under-20 team in the J20 Division 1. In the J18 he scored 23 points from 17 games and in the J20 scored five points from 16 games. Tonks also made a brief one game appearance from the club’s senior team in the HockeyFyran where he recorded an assist. Heading into 2022-23 Tonks has re-signed with Hässelby Kälvesta to play in the J20 for their under-20 team.

  • Update (17 September): Tonks has now signed with Kalmar HC J20, who also compete in J20 Division 1, for the 2022-23 season.
