The Sydney Sirens have announced the retirement of defender Amelia Matheson. First joining the Sirens for the 2008-09 season Matheson played a total of 152 games and recorded 166 points. During her time with the Sirens they won the Joan McKowen Memorial Trophy in 2017 and 2020. Matheson is also a former member of the Australian women’s national team having competed in five World Championships between 2011 and 2019. She is currently an associate coach with the AIHL’s Newcastle Northstars and is the head coach for the New South Wales state team.
