The Newcastle Northstars have defeated the Sydney Bears 4–3 in the preliminary final at the O’Brien Icehouse. The Bears had qualified for the match after defeating the Melbourne Mustangs yesterday in the first semifinal while the Northstars had advanced following their loss to the CBR Brave in the second semifinal. The Northstars now advance to tomorrow’s Goodall Cup Final where they will take on the CBR Brave.
